Kids get cancer, too. We know this because we live it every day with the kids we drive and the paths we’ve walked with our own children. In this very moment, we can’t change that. We can’t change the fact that cancer is the leading cause of disease-related deaths in children. We can’t alter the reality that 43 children are diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. every day. And although we want to more than anything in the world, we can’t change the heartbreaking truth that cancer steals 1,800 children from this earth every year.
Right now, today, we can’t change any of the harsh realities around this awful disease. We can, however, do our part to increase awareness – not just during this official month of Childhood Cancer Awareness, but every month, and every day. Awareness = Funding = Cure. Each one of us individually, and all of us together, can be a part of that equation.
Here at Daniel’s Care Van, we choose to make a difference in the lives of children with cancer by providing transportation to families that need it. We are one of many non-profits here in Denver that are focused on improving both the journey and the outcome for kids with cancer. We all are able to do what we do because of the support of people just like you.
We saw proof of that last week in the most incredible way. One of our newest riders, Miss S (pictured above), is battling cancer here with her mom while the rest of her family is in another state. Like many of us, Miss S and her mom were caught off guard by the cold weather last week and didn’t have the clothes they needed to say warm. Within minutes of us posting about their needs, our supporters came through to provide this brave little girl warm clothes and many other goodies to help her during this difficult time away from home. THANK YOU EVERYONE!
Miss S’s story reminds us that cancer affects families in ways that go far beyond the physical fight. We try to alleviate one obstacle through our mission of “Transporting the Brave,” but that’s just a start. That’s why we’ve partnered with two other non-profits for The Challenge 2020, a collaborative fundraising effort with the Ray of Hope Cancer Foundation and Energy Outreach Colorado. It starts with a simple $20 donation – please click below to learn more and provide critical assistance.
Thank you for all you do help us help children with cancer – one ride at a time.
