As we ring in the new year here at Daniel’s Care Van, we are feeling the love of our supporters as well as the families and hospitals we serve. When we asked for donations on Colorado Gives Day and to meet a matching gift goal, our supporters responded with kindness and generosity. When we asked for items on our Amazon Wish List, people filled those requests without hesitation. When we delivered Daniel’s Sparkly Lights to the children’s cancer centers we serve, we were met with open arms and true holiday spirit. When we picked up one of our kiddos and he couldn’t wait to show us his Christmas gifts, we cherished his joy and gratitude. And, when we lost one of our own to the evil that is childhood cancer, our followers showed their love and support once again. The road of #TransportingTheBrave is a rewarding one, for sure, but heartbreaking, too. We understand that this is a reality of childhood cancer. While we wish we could change that, we know that the best we can do is to ease the burden faced by these families, one ride at a time. Here are some highlights from December:
December Miles
In December alone, Daniel’s Care Van Transported the Brave a total of 358 miles. Since we started back in April, we’ve driven a total of nearly 8,000 miles!
Matching Donation
Pro-Line Framing of Arvada offered to match donations up to $1000 in December. Many Daniel’s Care Van supporters helped us meet this goal within 6 days. Thank you to Pro-Line Framing and everyone who contributed to this successful fundraising campaign.
Daniel’s Sparkly Lights
Holiday decorating that started with Daniel’s own IV pole has now become a Christmastime tradition for Daniel’s Care Van. We delivered battery-operated lights to children with cancer who are inpatient at Children’s Hospital Colorado and the Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children. Seventy-eight strings of lights were donated by Novelty Lights in Englewood, and multiple Daniel’s Care Van supporters donated batteries and gift bags.
New Kiddo
We started driving a new kiddo in December, and we continue to accept referrals from both Children’s Hospital of Colorado and Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children.
Cold Weather and Christmas
Frigid temperatures in the single digits didn’t stop one of our kiddos from standing outside for nearly 10 minutes telling us all about his Christmas gifts and showing off his new Spider Man game. His excitement warmed us all up!
Missing Chris
Please continue to keep the family of our resident jokester, Chris, in your thoughts. Chris passed away on December 31st. Chris was one of our first kiddos and we truly enjoyed driving him and his family. He was always smiling and always had a joke for us. He captured our hearts from day one, and we will never forget him.
