Our brave riders never give up. Neither do we.
Throughout the challenges of the pandemic and now as the world recovers, all of us here at Daniel’s Care Van are continuing our commitment to getting kids and young adults with cancer and life threatening illnesses to their appointments. Our mission is Transporting the Brave, and we need your help to stay on the road!
How you can be a hero for kids with cancer:
The kids we drive have always been our heroes, and now we’re inviting all of you to be heroes for them. Our 2021 Be a Hero campaign is an online event that’s easy and fun. Here’s how you can get involved:
Join a team!
Choose a team below to complete a challenge or activity. If you want to do your own activity, just join Team J! No matter which team you join, you’ll have a personal fundraising page you can use to promote your activity. Share your page through email or social media to encourage donations to the Be a Hero 2021 campaign and as you complete your activity, share pictures or images to raise even more funds for Transporting the Brave!
Team Daniel – Hula Hoop Challenge
Team Daniel is in memory of our original hero, Daniel the Brave. Even at such a young age and through very difficult treatments, Daniel always wanted to give back to others. Daniel’s legacy of giving is the inspiration for Transporting the Brave — not only do we want to help other kids facing a life-threatening illness, but we want to bring a smile to their faces along the way.
Since you simply cannot help but smile while hula hooping, as a member of Team Daniel, you will take on a hula hoop challenge by filming your attempts at hula hooping for all the world of social media to see. Led by our founder and Daniel’s mom, Jeri, the donations our hula-hoopers raise will go directly toward our mission of Transporting the Brave!
Team A – Walk or Run a 5k
Team A is in honor of a brave Daniel’s Care Van rider, Miss A, who has spastic diplegia cerebral palsy. Sweet Miss A has shown us what bravery looks like as she faces challenging treatments and multiple surgeries without ever losing her sense of compassion for others. We always look forward to seeing Miss A and her smile that lights up the room!
Miss A’s most serious upcoming treatment is surgery to improve her mobility. That’s why, as a member of Team A, you will be run or walk your own 5k — or any other distance you want. Post pictures of your walk or run, share them on social media with a link to your donations page, and the money you raise will go toward our mission of Transporting the Brave!
Team F – Cornhole Tournament
Team F is in honor of a brave Daniel’s Care Van rider, Mr. F, who was one of our very first riders from back in 2015. We’ve watched this little boy grow up during more than 7500 miles on the road with him! We’re honored to continue driving F to his follow-up appointments.
As a member of Team F, you will host an individual corn hole tournament for your friends and family. Post pictures of the fun day and encourage your friends and family to support our mission of Transporting the Brave!
Team S – Pie-in-the-face Competition
Team S is in honor of a brave Daniel’s Care Van rider from 2020, Miss S. This brave little girl and her mom were staying away from their home out of state while she underwent the most challenging phases of her leukemia treatment here in Denver. While we’d love to see Miss S again, we’re thrilled that she will be able to finish the rest of her treatment in her home state.
Miss S has a silly sense of humor, so as a member of Team S you will be challenging your friends and family to donate toward your personal fundraising goal and post pictures or video getting a pie in the face once the goal is met! All proceeds will go toward our mission of Transporting the Brave.
Team J – Choose Your Own Adventure
Team J is in honor of the rider who taught us that you’re never too old to be brave! Mr. J was one of the many young adults we’ve had the privilege of driving over the years.
With the spirit of independence that all young adults crave, members of Team J can choose any activity to participate in this year’s Be a Hero campaign. You — either by yourself or with family and friends — can do anything from kayaking in the moonlight to donating blood for the first time to hosting a virtual trivia night. The possibilities are virtually endless! You’ll describe your activity on your personal fundraising page, share pics and video, and raise donations for Transporting the Brave!
Team Y – Do Nothing!
Team Y is in honor of a brave Daniel’s Care Van rider, Miss Y, who rode with us during the entirety of her treatment for leukemia. One of our best memories of Transporting the Brave came when we were asked to celebrate with this brave little girl when she was finally done with treatment after more than two years. While little Miss Y was always full of determination and energy, the team honoring her is taking the opposite approach to bravery.
As a member of Team Y, you will do…. nothing. Well, nothing except make a donation of at least $20 and share your personal fundraising page on social media to raise money for Transporting the Brave. You can have a drink if you want to, or maybe some snacks. We’d love it if you shared pics or video of your quest toward nothingness, but then that would be doing something, and we don’t want to step on your vibe. After all, even the bravest of heroes needs a break sometimes.
