I don’t always share the deep, intense feelings that go along with operating Daniel’s Care Van, but I’m going to try now.
Yesterday we picked up our first brave rider for Angel Flight West. It was hard for me, very hard. I can not share this family’s story because it is not mine to tell and it is still being written, but believe me when I say very few things have shaken me like this story, a real story, did.
I was quickly taken back to my sweet Daniel’s last few days and all of my memories, good, bad and horrific, came flooding to the surface (they are always close).
See, I will never be a scientist who discovers the cure for cancer or other illnesses, but I can give these families a ride, this is now my calling. And by offering a ride I, We, can give them a glimmer of hope, and hope is a big thing when you are facing what so many of these families are facing.
Often times I forget to reach out and say thank you to everyone here, and I’m terrible at writing thank you cards; but please know from the bottom of my heart I am super grateful for all the love and support you show to DCV. See, I can’t do this alone, whether you donate, spread the word, play kickball or maybe come write thank you cards for us, you are helping. You are Transporting the Brave.
So, I will let yesterday remain yesterday and I will fill goodie bags for this sweet kiddo and the sibling and I will make sure they get back home; because that is what we do.
With gratitude,
Jeri
